Patchway Town Council to support staffed hours at Patchway Library

office09115

At the Full Meeting of Patchway Town Council on 19th November 2024, councillors agreed to a request from South Gloucestershire Council to maintain staffed hours at Patchway Library from 3.00 – 5.00pm on Wednesdays due to cuts in the District Council libraries budget for 2025/2026.

The resolution was dependent on the extra costs being split equally with Charlton Hayes Parish Council as the library provides a vital service for both parishes.

In January 2025, Charlton Hayes Parish Council confirmed this equal support for the stated staffing hours, and the £3901.02 will split between the two Councils.

Patchway Town Council will contribute £1,950.51 for one year starting 1st April 2025. Future years will be dependent on monitoring of public usage for these hours, an official request from South Gloucestershire Council and agreement of both Patchway Town Council and Charlton Hayes Parish Council.

All residents can find out more about Patchway Library by visiting the building on Rodway Road opposite Spar and the Fire Station. Details of opening hours, activities and events and facilities can be found online at https://beta.southglos.gov.uk/patchway-library. Patchway Town Council shares information on events and activities in the monthly Town News.

Mayor of Patchway Cllr Dayley Lawrence said, ‘Patchway Town Council is pleased to support maintaining the 3.00 – 5.00pm hours on Wednesdays in partnership with Charlton Hayes Parish Council. The library is an essential service for our community and the Council could not stand by ands let this reduction in hours impact the town. I urge residents to support their library by making use of the great services and activities on offer’.
