Patchway sports and community organisations update | October 2024

Patchway’s sports clubs and community organisations have provided more inspiring updates at the Council’s Parks, Open Spaces, Transport & Planning Committee Meeting on 8th October 2024.


Blakeney Road Allotment Society have recently formed a new committee with Will Todd elected as the new chair and Sheila Dickinson as Treasurer. The new committee have agreed three initial objectives to a/ install CCTV on the site at specific areas, b/ seek to gain full occupancy with only five plots now available; and c/ to improve the overall look of the site.


Pretoria Road Allotment Society reported plot take up is strong with only four plots now available, and a changing demographic as more families take on plots. The Society is looking forward to its Pumpkin event in November. The Society participated in the Patchway Throwback Festival in July and ran a number of tours of the allotment site.


The WECA Pollinator Grant project has progressed with polytunnels down constructed and being fitted out, a new pond dug and fenced, and a bog garden created.


Bristol Jets BMX Club reported that the Club continues to expand and now have almost 100 members. Regular Gate Nights are busy and the Club are running Saturday morning sessions through October. The Club will partner with Burnham BMX on a floodlit winter race series.

The Club is fund-raising for transponders to support the timekeeping for races.


Stoke Lane Football Club reported that the Club now have five teams playing League games on the grass pitches and FA-approved 3G pitch. All teams are showing great promise at this early part of the season. Over 200 players and parents are attending the England U21 match at Ashton Gate on 15th October.


Patchway Town Football Club reported that the club had made the disappointing decision to fold the PTFC Under 18 team for a number of reasons. Both PTFC 1st and Reserves are getting into their stride for the new season and seeking to recruit new players. The Club commented on the quality of the playing surfaces and thanked the Council groundstaff for their dedication.


Patchway & Charlton Hayes Wildlife Group reported that it has nearly 500 members on a Facebook group providing advice for residents, and is looking forward to progress on the Greenway Walk and at The Tumps following the 2023 Ecology Report.


Chair of the Committee Natalie Field said, ‘Once again, to hear all these wonderful groups and clubs undertaking such varied and exciting initiatives across the town is heart-warming to hear. The Council is delighted so many local young people and residents are able to participate in so many things’. Well done all.’
