Patchway sports and community organisations update | July 2024

Patchway’s sports clubs and community organisations have provided more inspiring updates at the Council’s Parks, Open Spaces, Transport & Planning Committee Meeting on 9 July 2024.


Bristol Jets BMX Club reported that membership of the club has increased over the past quarter with increased classes for young people with more coaches. The club have undertaken further maintenance at the track and added branding on the entrance gate.


The regional raceday in June was a huge success with over 200 riders taking part across 30 categories. At the national races, 5 Jets riders finishing within the top 8 8 of a category and two winning their category. The Club will be participating in the British Championships in August and National Championships in September.


Pretoria Road Allotment Society reported that the allotments are popular with only two vacant plots, and a series of talks held on wildlife, no-dig beds and use of pesticides. The Society are looking into grants to enable moving to electric hand tools. A pumpkin patch is being prepared for October to coincide with a Halloween event.


The WECA Pollinator Grant project has progressed with groundworks able to progress following the drier weather, and works to start a new pond and additional no-dig beds.


Stoke Lane Football Club reported that the Club have a new veterans team who will play home matches at Scott Par, and are looking forward to playing FA League junior matches on the newly accredited Jason Franklin 3G facility.


Patchway Town Football Club reported that the two senior teams avoided relegation in the 2023/2024 season. The Under 18s finished a respectful third place and reached the League Cup Semi Final. The Club start pre-season training in mid-July.


Patchway Cricket Club senior teams are having a challenging season, though the Junior side of the Club is progressing well progression now being seen from Juniors to Seniors teams.


Chair of the Committee Natalie Field said, I am delighted to hear the latest news from our sports teams and allotments groups. Patchway has a great community of people dedicated to making these activities happen, and it is great the Council is able to support in many ways’.
