M4 closure 21st - 24th March

office09115

National Highways have advised that the M4 will be closed between junction 18 and 19 in both directions the evening of Friday 21st March (7pm) and will reopen the morning of Monday 24th March (6am).

The closure is to complete the demolition of the bridge.

National Highways will be using Vehicle Messaging Signs (VMS) at key locations. The VMS will warn road users that certain routes are not suitable and encourage them to use the official diversion. This will be supplemented with their own signs to advise motorists, particularly HGVs, not to use certain routes as they did during the closure last October.

Diversions

Westbound Traffic

  • from M4 junction 18, exit the motorway roundabout to the A46 heading towards Bath

  • at the A46/A420 junction just past Pennsylvania take the A420 towards Warmley

  • at the A420/A4174 junction in Warmley, take the A4174 towards the M32

  • join the M32 at junction 1 and head to the M4 junction 19

If you're travelling eastbound, follow these directions in reverse.

Due to the exclusion zone, the Cuckoo Lane junction on the A432 Badminton Road will be closed to all traffic over the weekend. This closure will start ahead of the demolition on Thursday 20 March. We'll reopen the junction on Monday 24 March. During this closure you can access Cuckoo Lane by Down Road and Bury Hill.
