Hello, my name is Will and I have been an allotment holder at Blakeney Road site for six years. I am also a Committee member on the Blakeney Road Allotment Association.
Did you know there are 36 plots, many of them split into half-sized plots that are available for Patchway residents and people living outside the Patchway catchment area. Patchway residents do benefit from a lower rate.
The site is leased to Patchway Town Council from South Gloucestershire Council and currently there are several plots available for new members to take on, with several others due to become vacant from 1st September.
Allotments can have many benefits including physical and mental health benefits, social connection and environmental benefits. Gardening can help you feel calmer and less anxious .It can provide a sense of purpose. One study found that allotment sessions can significantly reduce tension, stress, anxiety, depression, anger and confusion. Blakeney Road Allotments is a welcoming community where you can meet new people. share tips and advice and swap plants and produce. Our site provides a habitat for wildlife such as robins, hedgehogs, frogs, newts and bumblebees.
Allotments can teach children where their food comes from, reduce waste and provide a chance to recycle. They can be a great way to save money as they can provide an abundance of fruit and vegetables throughout the summer.
So if you would like to know more about how to become an allotment holder with all these benefits please contact Patchway Town Council on office@patchwaytowncouncil.gov.uk or phone 07903 628422 and the team will pass on your details to us.
